Battle Ground Baptist Church, New Orleans, LA

2007

I took this photograph at Prospect 1 New Orleans, at the Nari Ward installation at Battle Ground Baptist Church. I stumbled on this yellow card, left behind in a corner of the church. I was spending a lot of time in New Orleans, working on the Katrina exhibition for the Louisiana State Museum. I have carried this statement with me since. It speaks to me of taking personal responsibility for one’s actions and imagining other realities -- a reminder to have a little humility.
